Civil Division

The objective of the Civil division is to provide legal advice/opinions on a timely basis upon request and in any event within 14 days depending on the complexity of the issue(s) and availability of full instructions on the matter as well as represent the Government in civil litigation in the Islands. 

The Civil Division is responsible for:

  • providing legal advice/ opinions to the Government on a wide spectrum of issues such as:
    • constitutional and administrative law
    • public finance
    • disciplinary proceedings of public officers
    • land acquisition
    • contract
    • public-private partnerships
    • Overseeing all Mutual Legal Assistance Matters
    • Appeals Under various Legislation
  • representing the TCI Government in court proceedings instituted by or against the Government, and in negotiations and dispute resolution hearings relating to:
  • public law litigation matters such as: 
    • constitutional challenges
    • judicial review
    • exercise of regulatory powers
  • private law civil litigation matters such as:
    • contract
    • land
    • recovery of public moneys
