BUSINESS LICENCE RENEWAL PROCESS – 2021/22

The Revenue Department would like to remind the general public that the 2021/22 Business Licence Renewal period commenced March 1st 2021. To assist with expediting the renewal process, Customers should take note of the following:

  • Registered companies are required to submit a copy of their register of members/shareholders and demonstration of good standing with the Financial Services Commission with their application for renewal.
  • Sole traders and partnerships must present a valid Business Name Registration Certificate from the Financial Services Commission along with their application for renewal.
  • Establishments requiring annual inspections from the Environmental Health or an Accommodation Licence are reminded to seek inspection ahead of the renewal deadline. Applications will not be accepted until all relevant information is received.  The Revenue Department reserves the right to request further documentation and conduct inspections.
  • Application and payment for renewals must be made on or before April 30th 2021 to avoid penalties.

Licence Holders are encouraged to utilize our new E-Services platform to renew their business licence in efforts to skip the lines at our branches and facilitate social distancing in our fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. The E-Services platform can be accessed via the following website: https://busreg.gov.tc/busreg/   or through the Revenue Department’s website: http://www.gov.tc/revenue

The Revenue Department (RD) would also like to remind the general public that Business Licence Certificates must be promptly collected at the Revenue Department Offices. Business Owners are urged to collect and display their Business Licences prominently in the place of business. This is in accordance with section 16 of the Business Licence Ordinance which states:

 “The Holder of a licence shall display the licence in a conspicuous place on any premises occupied by him for the purpose of carrying on business and shall produce such licence for inspection when requested to do so by the Permanent Secretary, Finance or a person authorized by him in that behalf, or a Police Officer not below the rank of Sergeant.”

A Business Owner may be liable for a fine of $1000, if he or she fails to properly display the business licence within his/her business.

Business Licence holders are hereby urged to collect outstanding licences immediately. Please contact the Taxpayer Services Section for further information.

End of Business Licence Renewal Period

The Revenue Department would like to remind the business community that Business Licence Renewal Period for 2021/22 is nearing its end.  Payment for renewal must be made on or before Friday, April 30th, 2021 to avoid penalties of 10% per month.

As of Monday, April 26th, the Revenue Department will only be accepting applications for Business Licence Renewals.  No first-time applications will be accepted until May 3rd 2021.

Businesses that ceased to operate and held a Business Licence for the previous period 2020/2021, are required to notify the Revenue Department immediately to avoid penalties.

All businesses that made changes to their business structure, location, etc. must give written notice to the Revenue Department.

Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Tax Waiver

The TCI Government recently announced a number of measures in response to Covid-19 which was contained in its Covid- 19 Stimulus Package.

Under the Emergency Powers (COVID-19) (Economic Relief Measures) Regulations 2020 (hereinafter the Regulations), provisions were made to waive the Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Tax (HRTT) for the month of March 2020 which was due in April 2020.

This waiver was contingent on taxpayer providing the following documentation:

  1. Completed Tax Waiver Request (TWR-2020) form;
  2. Proof that a remittance of tax for February was made during March 2020; and
  3. Proof of the number of employees currently on full pay, terminated or on reduced hours.

The public is hereby advised that the deadline for HRTT waiver submissions, and accompany documentation, is Monday 25th May 2020 at 4:00 pm.
