Statement from the Executive Director of CDEMA on the 20th Anniversary of the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies

Statement from the Executive Director of CDEMA on the 20th Anniversary of the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies, Turks and Caicos Islands

On behalf of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), I express my whole-hearted congratulations to the leadership and staff of the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies (DDME) of the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) on the achievement of its 20th Anniversary.

CDEMA is pleased to count TCI among its Participating States and acknowledges its valuable contributions to the region through its participation in the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of CDEMA, State of Preparedness Meetings and Regional Response Mechanism (RRM).

The progress the DDME has made in disaster risk management over the years is evident in its policy work and advancements on its Country Work Program. Noteworthy, too, are the strides you have made in the area of institutional strengthening and capacity building through the physical and human resource expansion of the department. There is no doubt that your investment in early warning systems, and public awareness and education has been extremely beneficial to the people of TCI.

As you celebrate this significant milestone under the theme “Honouring our past, Treasuring our present & Shaping our future Pillars of Resilience”, CDEMA extends its best wishes and looks forward to continued collaboration with the DDME in this critical work.

Ms. Elizabeth Riley, Executive Director
