DDME

TCI National Disaster Management Organisation

The National Disaster Management Structure (NDMS) manages the Turks and Caicos Islands’ disaster management programme. This Structure comprises: -

  1. The Executive Policy Committee;
  2. The National Disaster Advisory Committee;
  3. The National Operations Group; and
  4. The Island Committees.

The DDME is the main body within the NDMS responsible for coordinating the management of the various types of disasters caused by natural hazards that affect the nation. The Governor has ultimate responsibility for disaster management and chairs the Executive Policy Committee.

National Disaster Advisory Committee is chaired by the Deputy Governor, and makes recommendations and provides technical guidance and assistance to the Executive Policy Committee.

The National Operations Group is organised into eight (8) sub-committees and the Island Committees. Each sub-committee is assigned particular responsibilities for functional areas. The National Operations Group is the body that coordinates the disaster response and relief efforts and provides the necessary technical direction for the response phase of the emergency until the National Emergency Operations Centre is deactivated.
