BAHAMAS AND TURKS AND CAICOS ISOANDS PUBLIC FORECAST

PUBLIC FORECAST FOR 6:00 AM, TODAY AND TONIGHT, SUNDAY 4TH AUGUST 2024.

GENERAL SITUATION:

Rain bands associated with Tropical Storm Debby, located in the Gulf of Mexico, will continue to supportbouts of unsettled weather and gusty winds across the Northwest Bahamas. Meanwhile, high pressure ridging continues to produce moderate to locally fresh winds over the remainder of the country.

 SPECIAL WARNINGS:

The Bahamas Department of Meteorology is now issuing news items for Tropical Storm Debby and the public is urged to remain updated with current information regarding this system. ⚠ There is an

elevated risk for severe weather due to the presence of rain bands extending from Tropical Storm Debby, located in the Gulf of Mexico. Small craft operators should not venture far from port and beachgoers should exercise extreme caution along eastern and southern shorelines due to rip currents and possible rough surf.

AREA: CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS INCLUDING THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS

WEATHER: Partly sunny, warm and a bit breezy with isolated showers and few offshore thunderstorms possible. Turning partly cloudy tonight.

ADVISORY: A small craft caution remains in effect… Expect gusty winds and higher seas in or near heavy showers and thunderstorms.

WINDS: East to Southeast at 15 to 20 knots, gusty at times.

SEAS: 2 to 4 nearshore and in sheltered areas building up to 6 feet offshore and along Atlantic exposures.

AREA: NORTHWEST BAHAMAS  

WEATHER:  Variably cloudy, warm and breezy with scattered intermittent showers and thunderstorms through tonight. Showers may be heavy and thunderstorms strong to severe at times.

ADVISORY: A small craft advisory is in effect. Small craft operators should not venture far from port. Expect gusty winds and higher seas in or near heavy showers and thunderstorms.

WINDS: Southeast to South at 15 to 25 knots, gusting to near gale at times.

SEAS: 3 to 5 nearshore and in sheltered areas building 5 to 8 feet over open waters.

EXTENDED FORECAST:

Shower and thunderstorm activity will continue over portions of the Northwest Bahamas due to rainbands extending from Tropical Storm Debby located in the Gulf of Mexico. Atlantic high pressure ridgingwill dominate the weather over the remainder of the country through Tuesday.

 FORECAST FOR MONDAY

 WEATHER: Variably cloudy, very warm and humid with scattered showers and thunderstorms mainlyacross the Extreme Northwest Bahamas. Showers may become heavy and thunderstorms strong tosevere at times. Elsewhere, expect isolated showers or thunderstorms.

WINDS: Southerly at 10 to 15 knots in the Northwest Bahamas. East to southeast at 10 to 15 knotsacross the Central Bahamas but 15 knots with higher gusts across the Southeast Bahamas including the Turks and Caicos Islands.

SEAS: 3 to 5 feet over the ocean in the Northwest and Central Bahamas. 4 to 6 feet over the SoutheastBahamas including the Turks and Caicos Islands.

FORECAST FOR TUESDAY 

WEATHER: Variably cloudy and very warm with scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly across theExtreme Northwest Bahamas. Showers may become heavy and thunderstorms strong to severe at times.Elsewhere, expect isolated showers or thunderstorms.

WINDS: South to southeast at 10 to 15 knots across the Northwest Bahamas. East to southeastat 10 to 15 knots across the Central Bahamas but 15 knots across the Southeast Bahamas including the Turks and Caicos Islands.

SEAS: 3 to 5 feet over the ocean.
