Potential for Heavy Rains

General Situation:

The evolution of a robust upper trough extending across the north Atlantic, which is interacting with a shear line will favor shower and thunderstorm activity across the northern Caribbean, including the Turks and Caicos Islands until Monday, November 4.

Localized flash flooding is possible in low-lying flood-prone areas during heavy downpours or prolonged rainfall events.

Rainfall Forecast

Rainfall Amounts:

      o Total Accumulation: 2 to 4 inches (or 50 to 100 millimeters).

      o Intensity: light to moderate (heavy downpours possible in thunderstorms)

Duration: 8 pm EDT Thursday October 31 to 8 am EDT Monday November 4 

Distribution: All islands (easternmost islands most affected)

Potential Impacts

Flooding:

Risk of flash flooding in urban areas.

Flooding in low-lying and coastal areas.

Vulnerable Areas:

Providenciales: Lower Bight, Along Leeward Highway (near Cash N' Carry, Business Solutions, Do It Center, Caicos Lodge), Downtown, Five Cays, Kew Town, Millennium Highway, Industrial Drive, Long Bay

Grand Turk: Waterloo, Palm Grove, West Road, Cockburn Town, Back Salina, Overback, North Creek

South Caicos: Town/The Flats, Airport Road, Old Airport Road

North Caicos: Kew Settlement, Whitby, Sandy Point, Bottle Creek

Middle Caicos: Northern parts of Conch Bar, Bambarra, Lorimers

Salt Cay: North District, South District
