Alert #8 on Potential Tropical Cyclone Twenty-Two, issued by The Bahamas Department of Meteorology on Friday, 17th November, 2023 at 2pm EST.                          

... FLOODING RAINS CONTINUE TO SPREAD ACROSS JAMAICA, SOUTHEASTERN CUBA AND HISPANIOLA…    

A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for the entire Turks and Caicos Islands.

A Tropical Storm Watch means that Tropical Storm conditions could be experienced in the mentioned area in this case within 24 hours.  

At 1:00pm EST, the disturbance was centered near Latitude 18.0 degrees north and Longitude 78.5 degrees west, or about 485 miles southwest of Providenciales, Turk and Caicos Islands.

The system is moving faster toward the northeast near 16 mph and an additional acceleration toward the northeast is expected through the weekend. On the forecast track, the center of the system is expected to move across Jamaica this afternoon, Southeastern Cuba by early Saturday, and the Turks and Caicos Islands on Saturday. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph with higher gusts.  Some slight strengthening is possible during the next couple of days, but the system’s chance of becoming a tropical cyclone appears to be decreasing. 

Potential Tropical Cyclone Twenty-two is expected to produce rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches with isolated amounts of up to 4 to 6 inches and possible Tropical Storm winds over the Turks and Caicos Islands on Saturday.  Some minor coastal flooding is possible in areas of onshore winds along the southeastern coasts of the  the Turks and Caicos Islands. Residents in the Turks and Caicos Islands should begin preparing for possible Tropical Storm winds and flooding beginning on Saturday.
