DEPARTMENT OF TRADE LAUNCHES CONSUMER INFORMATION CORNER

The Department of Trade, Industry, and Fair Competition wishes to advise the general public of the launch of its Consumer Information Corner (CIC) that is located on the Department’s official website at www.gov.tc/trade.

Consumer protection refers to the practice of safeguarding buyers of goods and services against unfair practices in the marketplace. In the TCI, consumer protection measures are outlined in the CPO. Consumer protection is linked to the idea of consumer rights and to the formation of consumer organizations, which help consumers make better choices in the marketplace and pursue complaints against businesses.

The focus of the CIC is to ensure that consumers and providers that engage in business within the TCI have access to information about their rights as consumers and their obligations as providers.

The CIC will allow consumers and providers to view and download consumer reports prepared by the DTIFC, including the Report on Fuel Prices in the TCI from March 2022 to present, and the Report on the Prices of Breadbasket Items in the TCI from February 2023 to present. The overall aim of the CIC is to ensure that both consumers and providers are presented with a “one-stop shop” experience for consumer-related information and enquiries. Importantly, the CIC is considered an ongoing work activity as a part of the Consumer is King Campaign.

The Department of Trade expects that the CIC will have a positive impact by providing essential information to users, raising awareness among the general public, and guiding individuals engaged in consumer activities. The website will be constantly updated with the latest information in order to keep consumers and providers abreast of consumer protection information and initiatives within the Turks and Caicos Islands.
