COMPLIANCE DRIVE CONTINUE!
The Department of Trade Industry and Fair Competition will be conduction a compliance and inspection drive across various retail establishments throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands to assess adherence to the TCI Consumer Protection Ordinance. As part of our mandate, the Department is responsible for promoting and enforcing the Turks and Caicos Islands Consumer Protection Ordinance, which provides essential protection for consumers in the supply of goods and services across the TCI.
A key component within the Consumer Protection Ordinance is Parts IV and V, which address the Duties of Providers to Consumers. These provisions are particularly significant as they establish the obligations that businesses and service providers must fulfill to protect consumer interests. By clearly outlining these responsibilities, the Ordinance provides guidance to providers in delivering quality goods and services while ensuring fair treatment of consumers.
The objectives of these inspections are to:
· Ensure that providers are aware of their specific obligations to consumers under the Consumer Protection Ordinance.
· Increase awareness of what constitutes misleading or deceptive conduct, false representations, and unfair business practices.
· Educate providers on the consumer complaints process and the mechanisms available when violations of the Ordinance occur.
· Inform providers of the penalties and fines applicable in cases of non-compliance.
· Promote and strengthen consumer protection and consumer affairs throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands.
