National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week (NMLPW) is an annual, worldwide celebration of the medical laboratory professionals who play a vital role in every aspect of health care. During this week other medical professionals and the wider community show their support and gratitude for the hard work laboratory professionals do.
This week is a time for medical laboratory personnel to celebrate their professionalism and be recognized for their efforts. Another goal is to inform and educate medical colleagues and the public about the medical laboratory and the impact these dedicated skilled professionals have on the overall patient care and public health. Since laboratory technologist often work behind the scenes, only a few persons are aware of the critical testing they perform every day.
Lab Professionals Week is held annually during the last week of April. As a medical laboratory professional myself, I am aware of the vital, life- saving role that we play in healthcare. I would therefore like to take this opportunity to congratulate all medical technologists working across the length and breadth of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Here in the Turks and Caicos Islands the week activities commenced on Sunday April 23rd with a church service and will continue as follows:
Tuesday, April 25th - Opening Ceremony Cheshire Hall Hospital – Minister of Health, Agriculture and Human Services will declare the event open.
Wednesday, April 26th - Visitation of the Children’s Home / Hand Hygiene project in a school
Thursday, April 27th - CME/Displays for the High Schools at Cheshire Hall Hospital and Grand Turk Hospital
Friday, April 28th - Displays Continue
Saturday, April 29th - Banquet- Appreciation Dinner for Medical Laboratory Professionals.
