With the sudden rise of physical fighting among male students at the H.J. Robinson High School, the Department of Youth Affairs has arranged a day for male students, to discuss the consequences of fighting and what is causing their behavioral changes.
The one day workshop “Saving our Boys” part 2, will take place at the H.J. Robinson High School on Wednesday, 24th February at 8:30am.
The workshop will highlight the following topics:-
• Youth, violence and the society (Overview of youth, violence, the relationship between violence and the impact on family/home/individual & society)
• Conflict solving (discussion on the different approaches to solving conflicts, the benefits to be derived from conflict solving, management, and total transformation)
• Changing Course: Preventing Youths from Joining Gangs (the role of family, counselors, religious institutions, community, and government).
In addition students are expected to actively participate and discuss options and appropriate behavior instead of lashing out when they feel like hitting someone and the steps to take toward resolving the problem of fighting at school. They will also be given advice on how to handle fights that break out between siblings at home.
When our children use fighting or other negative physical behavior as their main coping skills, you’ll find that it usually doesn’t stop at home they will use it at school, in the neighborhood, and elsewhere.
“Remember, if two kids with distorted perceptions get into a physical fight, there may not be a truth; there might just be their distorted perceptions compounded by the absence of problem-solving skills." - James Lehman
