INTERNATIONAL GIRLS IN INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES (ICTs) DAY

On April 28, 2016 the Department of Gender Affairs under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Transportation and Communication will join the rest of the world in celebration of International Girls in ICT day under the theme “Expanding Horizons, Changing Attitudes”

This is a global initiative of the International Telecommunications Union (ITC) and the day is set aside to raise awareness on empowering and encouraging girls and young women to consider studies and careers in Information Communication Technologies (ICTs).

International Girls in ICT Day observed since 2011, has been celebrated in 150 countries around the world with more than 5,300 events with participation from over 177,000 girls and young women.  Each year, the fourth Thursday of April is committed to celebrating and commemorating the Girls in ICT Day.

As a department, we believe that it is time to consolidate good practices and focus on action and results, in paving the way by uplifting, cultivating, fostering and motivating women and girls, men and boys. We remain true to our mission of improving the quality of life within our communities and enhancing educational and economic opportunities for all.

In observance of International Girls in ICT Day, the Department of Gender Affairs will be hosting an Open Day where students from the various learning institutions will be engaged in a number of presentations by ICT Professionals. These presentations will highlight and discuss on how ICT is utilized to advance their respective organizations, including the different studies and career opportunities available through the usage of ICT.

The event is scheduled to take place at LIFE Centre, Old Airport Road, Grand Turk, commencing at 10:00am to 2:00pm.

We look forward to active participation from all parties involved.
