MINISTRY OF HEALTH’S COVID-19 UPDATE #119

The Ministry of Health would like to advise the public that as at 12am on 7th July 2020:

OVER THE PAST 24hrs, THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS HAS EXPERIENCED SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN ITS COVID-19 POSITION. SIX (6) NEW CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19 HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED. TWO (2) OF THESE CASES ARE CONTACTS OF KNOWN CASES, AND THE OTHER FOUR (4) IDENTIFIED AS LOCAL TRANSMISSIONS WITH NO CLEAR EPIDEMIOLOGICAL LINK.

THIS BRINGS THE NUMBER OF ACTIVE CONFIRMED CASES TO FORTY-TWO (42), WITH FOUR (4) OF THE CASES CONTINUING TO BE UNDER HOSPITAL CARE. The Public Health Team is continuing its implementation of aggressive contact tracing and control measures in relation to all active cases.

THE NEW confirmed cases BRING The total number of confirmed positive cases identified in the TCI to FIFTY-FIVE (55), with no new suspected cases being recorded. No new COVID-19 related deaths have been recorded since the previous update and total COVID-19 related deaths remain at two (2). The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 remains at ten (10).

THIRTY-FIVE (35) TEST RESULTS HAVE BEEN RECORDED SINCE THE PREVIOUS UPDATE. THESE CONFIRMED SIX (6) PERSONS POSITIVE AND TWENTY-NINE (29) OTHERS NEGATIVE FOR COVID-19. To date, the TCI has recorded a total of eight hundred and twenty-three (823) test results, with seven hundred and sixty-eight (768) confirmed to be negative and fifty-five (55) positive confirmations. All persons confirmed not to have COVID-19, and any contacts, (if quarantined, will be removed from quarantine/observation status) are asked to continue following proper guidelines from the Ministry of Health.

THE NUMBER OF PERSONS IN QUARANTINE/OBSERVATION HAS INCREASED TO 209. This includes: Confirmed cases (42), primary contacts of confirmed cases (85), secondary contacts of confirmed cases (53) returning TCI residents (29) – Fifteen (15) of these persons are currently being quarantined at a non-medical facility. Persons under observation/quarantine, that are not confirmed or suspected cases, are either not displaying symptoms or have not met the case definition.

The CHANGE in quarantine/observation numbers is as a result of the new confirmed cases and their contacts being added to quarantine/observation status; AND THE QUARANTINE PERIOD HAVING EXPIRED FOR SEVERAL PERSONS, WHO HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM QUARANTINE/OBSERVATION STATUS. To date, a total of 967 individuals have been released from quarantine/observation status. 

Local testing is being conducted for persons in a range of categories, according to the national testing strategy. This includes frontline workers and those who may need to travel for treatment abroad. These persons would not be reflected in quarantine numbers.

the public IS STRONGLY URGED TO FOLLOW THE HEALTH ADVICE AND GUIDELINES FROM THE MINISTRY, ESPECIALLY AS WE PROGRESS WITH THE PHASED REOPENING.

  • A suspected person is someone who meets the case definition as outlined by WHO and CARPHA - and is experiencing symptoms.
  • A person in quarantine is an individual on island who may have come in proximity to suspected or confirmed cases - and have not exhibited symptoms.

EIGHT (8) TEST RESULTS HAVE BEEN RECORDED SINCE THE PREVIOUS UPDATE, CONFIRMING ONE PERSON POSITIVE AND SEVEN (7) OTHERS NEGATIVE FOR COVID-19. To date, the TCI has recorded a total of seven hundred and eighty-eight (788) test results, with seven hundred and thirty-nine (739) confirmed to be negative and forty-nine (49) positive confirmations. All persons confirmed not to have COVID-19, and any contacts, (if quarantined, will be removed from quarantine/observation status) are asked to continue following proper guidelines from the Ministry of Health.

THE NUMBER OF PERSONS IN QUARANTINE/OBSERVATION HAS INCREASED TO 205. This includes: Confirmed cases (36), primary contacts of confirmed cases (80), secondary contacts of confirmed cases (53) returning TCI residents (36) – Twenty-one (21) of these persons are currently being quarantined at a non-medical facility. THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS CONTINUES TO SEE CHANGE IN ITS COVID-19 POSITION SINCE THE PREVIOUS UPDATE. ONE NEW CONFIRMED CASE OF COVID-19 HAS BEEN RECORDED; THE INDIVIDUAL IS A CASE OF LOCAL TRANSMISSION WITH NO CLEAR EPIDEMIOLOGICAL LINK. THIS INCREASES THE NUMBER OF ACTIVE CONFIRMED CASES TO THIRTY-FIVE (35), WITH FOUR (4) OF THE CASES NOW UNDER HOSPITAL CARE. FIVE (5) TEST RESULTS HAVE BEEN RECORDED SINCE THE PREVIOUS UPDATE, CONFIRMING ONE PERSON POSITIVE AND FOUR (4) OTHERS NEGATIVE FOR COVID-19. To date, the TCI has recorded a total of seven hundred and eighty (780) test results, with seven hundred and thirty-two (732) confirmed to be negative and forty-eight (48) positive confirmations. All persons confirmed not to have COVID-19, and any contacts, (if quarantined, will be removed from quarantine/observation status) are asked to continue following proper guidelines from the Ministry of Health.

THE NUMBER OF PERSONS IN QUARANTINE/OBSERVATION HAS DECREASED TO 188. This includes: Confirmed cases (35), contacts of confirmed cases (66), indirect contacts of confirmed cases (53) returning TCI residents (34) – Twenty-one (21) of these persons are currently being quarantined at a non-medical facility. Persons under observation/quarantine, that are not confirmed or suspected cases, are either not displaying symptoms or have not met the case definition.

THE TCI HAS RECORDED A NEW CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19; THE INDIVIDUAL IS A CONTACT OF ANOTHER KNOWN CONFIRMED CASE. THE NUMBER OF ACTIVE CONFIRMED CASES CURRENTLY STANDS AT THIRTY-TWO (32), WITH THREE (3) OF THE CASES CONTINUING TO BE UNDER HOSPITAL CARE. Today’s confirmed case INCREASES The total number of confirmed positive cases identified in the TCI to forty-FIVE (45), with no new suspected cases being recorded. No new COVID-19 related deaths have been recorded since the previous update and total COVID-19 related deaths remain at two (2). The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 remains at ten (10).

TWENTY-FOUR (24) TEST RESULTS HAVE BEEN RECORDED SINCE THE PREVIOUS UPDATE, CONFIRMING ONE PERSON POSITIVE AND TWENTY-THREE (23) OTHERS NEGATIVE FOR COVID-19. To date, the TCI has recorded a total of seven hundred and forty (740) test results, with six hundred and ninety-five (695) confirmed to be negative and forty-five (45) positive confirmations. All persons confirmed not to have COVID-19, and any contacts, (if quarantined, will be removed from quarantine/observation status) are asked to continue following proper guidelines from the Ministry of Health.

THE NUMBER OF PERSONS IN QUARANTINE/OBSERVATION HAS DECREASED TO 198. This includes: Confirmed cases (32), contacts of confirmed cases (69), indirect contacts of confirmed cases (50) returning TCI residents (47) – Thirty-two (32) of these persons are currently being quarantined at a non-medical facility. Persons under observation/quarantine, that are not confirmed or suspected cases, are either not displaying symptoms or have not met the case definition.
