The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Planning issues this final notice to all electrical practitioners, property owners and businesses.
Approved electrical license applicants are required to pay the licensing fee for 2018 before May 15, 2018. The processing of payments can be done at the Planning Department Offices in Grand Turk and Providenciales.
The Planning Department Office on Providenciales is located in Emily House, Leeward Highway, Providenciales and the office in Grand Turk is currently located in the Government Compound, on Pond Street.
The Electricity (Amendment) Ordinance 2015 which came into effect on March 1, 2016 states that, “no person shall carry out electrical work of any nature unless he holds a license issued by the Board authorizing him to do so and is licensed in one of the following categories;”
- Electrical Engineer
- Master Electrician
- Apprentice or
While the onus is on electrical practitioners to complete the licensing process, property owners and businesses have a responsibility to ensure they engage and use only electricians and electrical practitioners who are licensed and who can provide proof of such license to perform electrical work in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Electrical works conducted by unlicensed individuals will not be approved by the electrical inspector and such persons performing electrical works without a license, contravene the provisions of Section 60T (b) of the Electricity (Amendment) Ordinance 2015. Any person who carries out any electrical work, electrical installation or electrical wiring without a license issued by the Board commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $5,000 or to a term of imprisonment of six months, or to both such fine and imprisonment
