MINISTRY OF HEALTH’S COVID-19 UPDATE #98

The Ministry of Health would like to advise the public that as at 12am on 16th June 2020:

THERE HAS BEEN SOME CHANGE IN THE TURKS AND CAICOS’ COVID-19 POSITION OVER THE PAST 24hrs. TCI CONTINUES TO RECORD NO NEW POSITIVE OR SUSPECTED CASES.

HOWEVER, THE NUMBER OF PERSONS IN QUARANTINE/OBSERVATION HAS INCREASED AT 191. This includes: Returning TCI residents (171), and other international travellers (20) – Seventy-three (73) of these persons are currently being quarantined at a non-medical facility. Persons under observation/quarantine, that are not confirmed or suspected cases, are either not displaying symptoms or have not met the case definition.

THE CHANGE IN QUARANTINE/OBSERVATION NUMBERS IS PRIMARILY AS A RESULT OF THE MEMBERS OF THE RECENTLY ARRIVED CUBAN MEDICAL BRIGADE BEING ADDED TO QUARANTINE/OBSERVATION STATUS AS PART OF STANDARD PROTOCOLS. ONE INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCING SYMPTOMS BUT NOT MEETING THE CASE DEFINITION WAS CONFIRMED TO BE NEGATIVE FOR COVID-19 AND WAS REMOVED FROM QUARANTINE/OBSERVATION STATUS. TO DATE, A TOTAL OF 728 individuals have been released from quarantine/observation status

FORTY-THREE (43) LOCAL TEST RESULTS HAVE BEEN RECORDED OVER THE PAST 24hrs, CONFIRMING ALL PERSONS TESTED WERE NEGATIVE FOR COVID-19. LOCAL TESTING IS BEING CONDUCTED FOR PERSONS IN A RANGE OF CATEGORIES, INCLUDING FRONTLINE WORKERS, THOSE THAT MAY NEED TO TRAVEL LOCALLY TO OTHER ISLANDS, TRAVEL FOR TREATMENT ABROAD AND OTHER REASONS. THESE PERSONS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN IN QUARANTINE. To date, the TCI has recorded a total of three hundred and sixteen (316) test results, with three hundred and four (304) confirmed to be negative and twelve (12) positive confirmations. All persons confirmed not to have COVID-19, and any contacts, (if quarantined, will be removed from quarantine/observation status) are asked to continue following proper guidelines from the Ministry of Health.

CONFIRMED POSITIVE CASES CONTINUE TO STAND AT TWELVE (12); WITH THE TOTAL NUMBER OF RECOVERIES FROM COVID-19 AT TEN (10), AND THE TCI CONTINUES TO RECORD ONE COVID-19 DEATH.

the public IS ADVISED TO CONTINUE FOLLOWING THE HEALTH ADVICE AND GUIDELINES FROM THE MINISTRY, ESPECIALLY AS WE PROGRESS WITH THE PHASED REOPENING. PERSONS ARE ALSO REMINDED of offenses committed under section 34 of the Emergency Powers (COVID-19) (nO.4) (AMENDMENT) (NO.5) Regulations 2020 in regard to false Statements/information. You do not have to be the originator of the statement/information in order to be charged under the law.
