BAHAMAS AND TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS PUBLIC FORECAST

PUBLIC FORECAST FOR TODAY AND TONIGHT THURSDAY 26TH NOVEMBER 2020

GENERAL SITUATION:  AN ELONGATED RIDGE EXTENDING FROM A ROBUST HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM NORTH OF THE AREA WILL CONTINUE TO DOMINATE THE ISLAND CHAIN, WHILE WINDS AND HIGH SEAS SLOWLY SUBSIDE AS THE RIDGE GRADUALLY WEAKENS THROUGH TONIGHT.

SPECIAL WARNINGS: BEACHGOERS SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION DUE TO THE RISK OF RIP CURRENTS ALONG NORTH AND EAST COAST BEACHES.

WEATHER: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH OCCASIONAL CLOUDY PERIODS, WARM AND A BIT BREEZY WITH THE SLIGHT CHANCE OF LIGHT PASSING SHOWERS TODAY, TURNING MILD TONIGHT.

ADVISORY: A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT DUE TO SWELLS. A SMALL CRAFT CAUTION WILL COME INTO EFFECT ACROSS ALL AREAS BY TONIGHT.

WINDS: NORTH TO NORTHEAST AT 10 KNOTS OR LESS, FALLING LIGHT AND VARIABLE AT TIMES IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS, SHIFTING EAST TO SOUTHEAST AT 10 TO 15 KNOTS IN THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS INCLUDING THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS.

SEAS:3 TO 5 FEET OVER THE OCEAN BUT SLIGHTLY HIGHER IN LIGHT EASTERLY SWELLS.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: 1) A FRONTAL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM LOCATED SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF BERMUDA HAS A LOW, OR 10 PERCENT CHANCE OF TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION THROUGH THE NEXT 5 DAYS.

2) A NON-TROPICAL AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IS EXPECTED TO FORM OVER THE FAR EASTERN ATLANTIC THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND. THIS SYSTEM WILL HAVE A LOW, OR 20 PERCENT CHANCE OF TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION THROUGH THE NEXT 5 DAYS.
