3 DAY BAHAMAS AND TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS PUBLIC FORECAST

PUBLIC FORECAST FOR TODAY AND TONIGHT FRIDAY 20TH NOVEMBER 2020                                                                                                                                                                       

GENERAL SITUATION: A STATIONARY FRONT ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS WILL GRADUALLY WEAKEN. MEANWHILE, A TIGHT PRESSURE GRADIENT CONTINUES TO PRODUCE BRISK WINDS AND HAZARDOUS MARINE CONDITIONS AROUND THE BAHAMAS THROUGH TONIGHT.

SPECIAL WARNINGS: SMALL CRAFT OPERATORS AND BEACHGOERS SHOULD REMAIN IN PORT AND REFRAIN FROM ENTERING THE WATERS DUE TO HIGH SEAS, ROUGH SURF AND HAZARDOUS RIP CURRENTS ALONG NORTH AND EAST COAST BEACHES. MOTORISTS AND PEDESTRIANS SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION TRAVERSING NORTH AND EAST COAST ROADS AS WIND BLOWN SAND, SEA SPRAY AND OVERTOPPING WAVES MAY GREATLY REDUCE VISIBILITY, ESPECIALLY ALONG THE FISHING HOLE ROAD IN GRAND BAHAMA AND THE GLASS WINDOW BRIDGE IN ELEUTHERA.

WEATHER: PARTLY TO MOSTLY SUNNY, WARM AND A BIT BREEZY WITH FEW ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THE SLIGHT CHANCE OF AN ISOLATED THUNDERSTORM OR TWO.

 

WINDS: NORTHEAST TO EAST AT 15 TO 20 KNOTS IN THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS…NORTHEAST TO EAST AT 10 TO 15 KNOTS IN THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS INCLUDING THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS.

 

SEAS: 4 TO 6 FEET NEAR SHORE BUT UP TO 8 FEET IN NORTHEAST AND EASTERLY SWELLS.

 

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: THERE IS CURRENTLY ONE AREA OF INTEREST:

1) A NON TROPICAL AREA OF LOW PRESSURE COULD FORM BETWEEN THE BAHAMAS AND BERMUDA BY EARLY NEXT WEEK. THE SYSTEM COULD GRADUALLY DEVELOP SUBTROPICAL CHARACTERISTICS THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK AS IT MOVES NORTH-EASTWARDS. THIS SYSTEM HAS A LOW OR 20 PERCENT CHANCE THROUGH THE NEXT FIVE DAYS.
