BAHAMAS AND TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS PUBLIC FORECAST

THE PUBLIC FORECAST FOR 6:00 PM TONIGHT AND TOMORROW SUNDAY 8TH NOVEMBER 2020, ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY.

GENERAL SITUATION:UNSETTLED WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE BAHAMAS, AS TROPICAL STORM ETA, NEAR THE WESTERN PORTION OF THE BAHAMA ISLANDS, IS FORECAST TO PROGRESSIVELY MOVE INTO THE FLORIDA KEYS TONIGHT THROUGH EARLY MONDAY MORNING.

SPECIAL WARNINGS:TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT FOR THE NORTHWEST AND PORTIONS OF THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS. RESIDENTS COULD EXPECT WIDESPREAD FLOODING ACROSS THE ARCHIPELAGO AND SHOULD BE AWARE OF DANGEROUS SEA SWELLS AND WAVES OVER-TOPPING SEAWALLS AND COASTAL ROADS.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: 1) RECENT SATELLITE-DERIVED WIND DATA CONFIRM A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM HAS DEVELOPED SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE AZORES. THIS SYSTEM HAS A LOW OR 30 PERCENT CHANCE OF DEVELOPMENT THROUGH THE NEXT FIVE DAYS.

2) A TROPICAL WAVE IS FORECAST TO MOVE OVER THE CENTRAL CARIBBEAN SEA, WHERE AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE COULD FORM IN A FEW DAYS. THIS SYSTEM HAS A LOW OR 20 PERCENT CHANCE OF FORMATION THROUGH THE NEXT FIVE DAYS.

FOR THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS INCLUDING THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS

WEATHER:     CLOUDY AND WINDY WITH WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS.

ADVISORY:     ALL MARINERS ARE ADVISED TO REMAIN IN PORT.

WINDS:  SOUTHEAST TO SOUTH AT 20 TO 25 KNOTS BUT HIGHER IN GUSTS.

SEAS:  10 TO 14 KNOTS BUT HIGHER IN LARGE EASTERLY SWELLS.

FOR THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS

WEATHER:    VARIABLY CLOUDY AND VERY WINDY WITH WIDESPREAD SHOWERS, RAIN AND ISOLATED EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH MONDAY.

ADVISORY:   ALL MARINERS ARE ADVISED TO REMAIN IN PORT.

WINDS:  SOUTHEAST TO SOUTH AT 25 TO 30 KNOTS BUT GUSTING TO GALE FORCE IN THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS… SOUTHEAST TO SOUTH AT 20 TO 25 KNOTS BUT HIGHER IN GUSTS IN THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS.

SEAS:  12 TO 16 KNOTS BUT HIGHER IN LARGE EASTERLY SWELLS IN THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS…10 TO 14 KNOTS BUT HIGHER IN LARGE EASTERLY SWELLS IN THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS.
