BAHAMAS AND TURKS AND CAICOS PUBLIC FORECAST

 

THIS IS THE BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR TODAY AND TONIGHT SUNDAY 8TH, NOVEMBER 2020 ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6 AM.                  

 

GENERAL SITUATION: TROPICAL STORM ETA IS STREAMING RICH MOISTURE OVER THE BAHAMAS AS IT CROSSES CUBA TODAY AND APPROACH THE WESTERN BAHAMAS TONIGHT.

SPECIAL WARNINGS: TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS. TROPICAL STORM ALERT IS IN EFFECT FOR THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS. RESIDENTS COULD EXPECT WIDESPREAD FLOODING ACROSS THE ARCHIPELAGO. RESIDENTS SHOULD BE ALERT FOR SEA SWELLS AND DANGEROUS WAVES OVER-TOPPING SEAWALLS AND COASTAL ROADS.

 

TROPICAL WEATHER:  A BROAD NON-TROPICAL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO FORM SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE AZORES WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. FORMATION CHANCE OF THIS SYSTEM DURING THE NEXT 5 DAYS IS A LOW 20 PERCENT.

WINDS:  SOUTHEASTERLY AT 30 TO 40 KNOTS WITH GUST TO STORM FORCE IN THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS AND SOUTHEASTERLY AT 25 TO 30 KNOTS IN THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS INCLUDING THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS.     

     

SEAS:  12 TO 16 FEET IN THE NORTHWEST AND 10 TO 12 FEET IN THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS INCLUDING THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS.         

 

FORECAST FOR  TUESDAY

 

WEATHER: CLOUDY TO OVERCAST WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS AND PARTLY CLOUDY TO CLOUDY WITH WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS IN THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS INCLUDING THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS.

 

WINDS: SOUTHEASTERLY AT 25 TO 30 KNOTS WITH HIGHER GUST IN THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS AND 20 TO 25 FALLING 15 TO 20 KNOTS BY EVENING IN THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS INCLUDING THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS.

 

SEAS: 10 TO 12 FEET IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL ISLANDS AND 7 TO 9 FEET IN THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS INCLUDING THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS.
