JOB SUMMARY:

This is a managerial post to assist the Director of Mechanical Services on the daily operations of the Mechanical Workshop on the designated Island.  Responsible for the direct supervision and delegation of duties to the Senior Mechanic/Technician and for the quality and timely completion of repairs, servicing and inspection of the TCIG vehicle fleet.  Responsible for assuring the quality of the road worthiness testing and inspection process for private and public vehicles for the designated Island.    Oversees the efficient and effective maintenance and repair of TCIG pumps and generators in the designated Island.  Assists with the preparation, management and control of the Division’s budget to ensure financial management prudence and compliance.                                       

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manage the transportation, maintenance and service needs of the TCIG vehicle fleet for the designated Island.
  2. Procure parts and materials locally for TCIG vehicle fleet in the designated Island.
  3. Maintain all records of parts, materials and work orders
  4. Manage staff and control of workshop and office resources
  5. Ensure credible and thorough inspections to assure the road worthiness of all TCIG and privately owned vehicles in accordance with relevant rules, regulations and policies and standards.
  6. Prepare quarterly reports of shop operations and performance.
  7. Assist in conducting annual valuations of the TCIG fleet
  8. Delegate tasks to the Senior Mechanic/Technician and Mechanics.
  9. Ensure that the TCIG vehicle fleet database for the respective island is up to date
  10. Collect and collate information from individuals on the respective island regarding incidents and accidents to any TCIG vehicle.
  11. Conduct training to staff and provide guidance as required
  12. Visit other Islands to perform scheduled repairs and maintenance to TCIG vehicles
  13. Adhere to all Public Service codes, rules and regulations
  14. Perform other related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Qualifications:

Essential:  An Associate Degree in automotive technology/related field or A1 – A8 Automotive Service Excellence Certification (ASE) or equivalent      

Experience:           

  • 5 to 8 years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repairs
  • 3 to 4 years of management/supervisory experience is required.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in purchasing and procurement is required.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in preparing and executing training simulation exercises.

Compensation:

SALARY – Grade 7.1 $44,138.80 per annum plus allowances

For persons recruited from outside of the Turks and Islands, a two (2) year contract extendable on mutual agreement to two (2) years is offered.  Other benefits, in addition to the stated allowances include an end-of-contract gratuity of 10% of salary; return passage, for family of up to two children up to the age of eighteen (18) years as well as duty free concession on the shipment of personal effects imported within six (6) months of appointment.
