Current Issues

Review of the Regulatory Framework of the Electricity Service Sector
A strategy to improve the regulatory framework of the electricity service sector was unveiled by Malike Cummings, TCI Electricity Commissioner. This eight point plan which was presented to the Advisory Council and the Consultative Forum is intended to put in place effective measures of control in addition to the monitoring of service quality, capital investment, the efficiency of operations, the introduction of renewable energy and to address the issue of the allowable rate of return the utility shareholders might expect from investing in the TCI’s electricity sector.  
 
Verification of Belonger Status and Registration as Elector
The Ministry of Border Control and Labour and the Elections Office are pleased to announce that registration for verification of Belonger Status in the Turks and Caicos Islands and registration as an elector in the upcoming general election will commence on Monday, April 16, 2012. The following documents have been prepared for the benefit of the general public. 
 
VALUE ADDED TAX (VAT) GREEN PAPER CONSULTATION PROCESS
The Government of the Turks & Caicos Islands is in the process of building a taxation system that will help restore fiscal balance and a sustainable economy, alleviate poverty and contribute to other critical social development with the introduction of a modern and broad-based Value Added Tax (VAT). Given the state of public finances this Government cannot afford to delay the implementation of VAT, and is committed to an implementation date of April 1st 2013. Therefore, the Implementation Team is pleased to present the Green Paper on VAT for public dissemination and discussion. 
 
TCI REVISED ELECTION ORDINANCE
The revised Turks and Caicos Islands Elections Ordinance is an update of the existence Ordinance.
