INTERCEPTION - SEPTEMBER 14, 2020

On the 12th of September 2020, at approximately 10:30 p.m. the Enforcement Unit at Providenciales was informed by 911 that the Coastal Radar has spotted a migrant vessel and that the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Marine Branch Police had intercepted an illegal Haitian vessel. The Enforcement Unit responded accordingly.

An hour later, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands, Marine Branch Police arrived at South Dock, Providenciales with the migrant vessel Loose Moose and twenty-five (25) persons including eighteen (18) males, five (5) females and two (2) minors.

Agencies present at South Dock, Providenciales included, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Tactical and Beat and Patrol Units, Public Health and the Ports Authority.

They were all taken to the Detention Centre for further processing and eventual repatriation or legal proceedings

The 25 feet vessel, Loose Moose was powered with a v200 Yamaha box head engine for the journey. The vessel is white in color with blue stripes.  

This interception over the weekend brings the number of persons arriving on illegal migrant vessels for this Fiscal Year to 673 persons compared with 447 persons during the same period last year. Also, six (6) vessels were successfully intercepted for the April – September 2020 period compared to seven (7) last year.

The public is also requested to continue to provide the Police with tips or any information related to this or any other illegal landing.
